It was a long and tiring day for Sam, his shirt was fully drenched with sweat and his face looked as if he had just dipped it in water. He entered into a Coffee shop nearby, not for a cup of coffee, but for a stint of cool air from the air conditioners of the shop. He sat at a corner table for relaxing himself.
As he was sitting at the corner table, he started to stare out at the hot sun through the glass windows of the shop for a while, and slowly turned his head towards the glass door to see a girl, the girl’s face was covered by the shadow of the sun and all he could see was a black dusky outline of the girl’s body. Unknowingly, he started to stare at her, as she opened the door and walked in, waving Hi to someone inside. As she walked past him, his eyes and head turned towards her like a sunflower following the sun.
the girl suddenly noticed that he was looking at her and turned towards him and gave a sudden shocked look at him, then smiled, and said “hey, Sam. How are you? Don’t you remember me? Meera?? Where have you been all this time? It’s been 4 months since I last saw you. Sam was startled for a minute. He couldn’t recognize her, however didn’t want to tell it out. Who would want to tell a beautiful girl that he doesn’t recognize her?
Sam nodded his head and said “yak, I remember you. So how are you?” Meera then sat next to him, and started to talk. She seemed to be a big talker, kept on talking and talking for about 20 minutes about past memories and walked past nostalgia of their times in college. But it was weird for Sam, because he could not remember anything she said. It was completely blank for him. He tried so hard, he couldn’t even remember a single thing. He tried again and again, he wasn’t able to.
He became worried and confused, his head twitched in pain, he was undergoing a traumatic phase in his mind, and not being able to remember anything about the past was like an atomic explosion in his head. The more he tried, the more it pained. He couldn’t take it anymore. So he told his situation to Meera. Who was puzzled, she got as confused as he did. She couldn’t understand what was going on with Sam. So Meera went on asking questions to Sam about the past again and again, trying to make him remember something. As a result of extreme pain in his head, Sam became unconscious and fell down from his chair. There was commotion in the coffee shop because of this. People surrounded him like vultures gather around their prey. Meera was trying her best to wake him up.
As Meera was thinking of calling an ambulance, a guy entered the coffee shop; he went directly to Sam, then turned to Meera and asked what happened to him. Meera told him the whole story. The guy seemed pissed about it, he was disturbed with the things that had happened. So she enquired to him, if he knew Sam. Then the guy said “I’m vial, neurologist and close friend to Sam”. Meera then asked, what happened to Sam that he fainted? Vimal then replied “Sam suffers from anterograde amnesia or commonly called short term memory loss. He cannot remember anything for more than 24 hrs, he has no memory of his past, and neither can he remember anything after a day.” Then Vimal continued about what had happened to Sam.
Sam had been injured in a road accident about 4 months ago. He was hit by a speeding car and thrown away from his bike and landed on the road, head hitting hard on the ground, he was lucky to be alive but conditionally, with his heavy damage in brain. He lost the ability of memory and could never remember anything for more than 24 hrs. The only thing he still remembers is the moments before his accident, he was on the way to meet a friend. He still thinks he has to meet his friend and starts every morning from his home to meet her, his friend who he doesn’t remember and he’d still keep on doing this for rest of his days.
As Vimal finished, Meera remembered and burst out crying aloud. For only she now knew…
The friend, whom Sam had to meet that day, was none other than her. Sam had been on his way to meet Meera. Now, after knowing what had happened to Sam, she felt so guilty, she hated herself, she felt she’s the one responsible for the whole thing. If only she hadn’t called Sam that day. Meera couldn’t stop crying, every second she saw the unconscious Sam, her mind pricked her. She had to be taken away from the place by her friends. While Sam was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
But there was a secret no one knew… Sam had been madly in love with Meera for 4 yrs. From first day of his college, but he didn’t have any courage to tell it to her. He wasted all 4 yrs just being beside her as a friend.
But now, even he cannot remember his love for Meera.
His love for Meera would be forever untold.
